Publishing Cloud • Starting shot for the practice pilot
2019-08-06Introduction
With their DeepVA® and ci-book™ products, The Chainless GmbH from Freiburg and d-serv GmbH from Tübingen have come up with a joint idea for a »Publishing Cloud« and implemented it in the »Cloud Mall Baden-Württemberg« initiative submitted by a cooperative practice pilot. The idea sketch has been checked by the decision-making committee - consisting of the project partners of the Cloud Mall Baden-Württemberg - for all essential evaluation and approval criteria and approved as a practice pilot on June 25th, 2019.
Situation
Many companies and organizations operate different IT systems to create, update, translate and manage their content. This has resulted in heterogeneous system landscapes, some of which are not networked with one another, which is why the same content has to be recorded several times and updated at great expense for further processing and use in numerous media. Text, images, video and audio files are created in different applications and maintained or made available in different systems. Some systems, some of which are set up monolithically, are characterized by high implementation and adaptation costs and often present hurdles that are difficult to overcome - both in their use and in their networking. As a result, companies and organizations almost lose track of things and have to keep asking themselves which system has the latest, current status or is the leading source and which application or which system is best suited for certain communication tasks or media.
Objective
The »Publishing Cloud« follows the centralized approach of horizontally expanding existing systems with specific functionalities, whereby a cloud-based solution offers the best conditions for providing appropriate interfaces to third-party systems and reducing the effort for the maintenance and servicing of the accessible and controllable infrastructures. From a technical point of view, the »Publishing Cloud« is intended to create a bridge between the different IT systems and content sources, such as content management systems, databases for product, sales and marketing information and, above all, for images and videos, whereby the responsible persons for marketing, sales or services in the production and distribution of high-quality advertising and communication media and with regard to the processes required for this in the print and web areas.
Initiators
The partners of the »Cloud Mall Baden-Württemberg« - Fraunhofer IAO , Fraunhofer IPA , Institute for Enterprise Systems (InES) and Baden-Württemberg: Connected eV (bwcon) - are leading the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economics, Labor and Housing funded initiative by cooperative practice pilots with interested companies. The practice pilots are an essential part of the initiative in order to enable knowledge transfer of the results obtained in the publicly funded project. The practical pilots are implemented within the framework of manageable projects on the basis of submitted idea sketches, whereby - depending on the type of project and the associated challenges - support is offered with organization, conception or technical prototyping.
